Lochgilphead Campus, Argyll In June 2014, Argyll & Bute Council instructed its main school contractor and maintenance providers, MITIE and ABC Schools to replace an existing 2G pitch with a 3G surface at Lochgilphead Joint Campus. The Campus combines all schools in Lochgilphead.
Fairways Sportsgrounds using TRS equipment was employed to remove the existing pitch with a specific request to retain the shock pad beneath if at all possible. Work started in July and the initial removal process took four men approximately 2.5 working days to achieve. Without this specialist equipment such a task would have easily taken the same number of personnel over a week involving a more complicated process which would have been less kind to the shock pad..
Our team removed the carpet in such a way that shock pad could be re-used. Subsequently a 40 mm Tiger Turf surface - Total Turf 40XQ - was laid. The primary use for this carpet is football but it can accommodate multiple sports so is equally suitable for hockey, shinty, athletics and rugby training. The new pitch is FIFA 1* approved and after school can be used as a community facility. The project was handed over for the start of the new school term and the worn carpet was fully recycled.
