Synthetic rugby surfaces are becoming more common and a great option for those who need a year round solution or training facility.

Fairways Sportsgrounds has installed two separate pitches that conform with IRB Regulation 22 standard. On both occasions the facilities were for community use and required the flexibility to play both rugby and football.

In September 2010, a new surface was  constructed at Meggetland Sports Complex (adjacent to Boroughmuir RC, Edinburgh) which uses a version of the Edel Grass Future DS and an Alveo Closed Cell Foam shock pad.
In Autumn 2009, client North Lanarkshire Council specified a 3G pitch marked for rugby, and both 11 and 7- a-side soccer at Airdire Leisure Centre.
