The team at Fairways Sportsgrounds has amassed a wealth of experience in all areas of synthetic pitch installation. Like others they have witnessed the synthetic product evolving significantly since the mid 1980s. Back then, most artificial pitches had a reputation for high bounce and a rock hard surface. However it is hockey which has 'trail blazed' artificial turf. As synthetic hockey pitches became more prevalent, the stable surface helped spur enormous developments. Thanks to the better surfaces the actual game of hockey 'speeded up'. International hockey teams benefited and now the gane is played at a faster pace. Our carpet partners, Edel Grass, not surprisingly with their Dutch roots, were one of the earliest adopters and bring unrivalled knowledge of training and playing requirements. Fairways Sportsgrounds has installed a first rate FIH-approved hockey pitch at Mary Erskine School, Edinburgh using an Edel Grass surface.
