Press Releases Nov 22, 2011 Fairways Sportsgrounds embraces community benefit and exceeds commitment During the initial phase of the installation at Kelvingrove Lawn Bowling Centre, Fairways Sportsgrounds has exceeded its Community Benefits target agreed with Glasgow City Council. As well as taking on one NET member of staff and awarding five work experience placements, the team at Fairways Sportsgrounds also took on six short term paid placements. Dave Gibson, Fairways Sportsgrounds' Contracts Director said: "Eleven previously unemployed individuals, many of them under 20, gained work experience on site during July and August and made a very worthwhile contribution to the project." Glasgow 2014 "will stage the best Lawn Bowls competition ever" Members from the Lawn Bowls International Federation have visited Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre this week and finished the visit by expressing their delight at the preparation already gone into the West End venue that will host the Lawn Bowls competition for the Commonwealth Games in 2014. Kenny Clark, World Bowls technical delegate for Glasgow 2014 and World Bowls chief executive Gary Smith have been in Glasgow to meet the Organising Committee and assess the greens at Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre. Kenny Clark, World Bowls Technical Delegate for Glasgow 2014 said: "Advance planning is a crucial element to staging a successful Lawn Bowls competition at any level and therefore it's incredibly important for us to see the progress at Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre in regards to the Organising Committee and its planning for the Commonwealth Games. "The organisers of Glasgow 2014 have made a positive start in their preparations to ensure we have a quality playing surface to match this outstanding picturesque venue in just under three years' time and I have every confidence that this will continue right up until the Games." Gary Smith, World Bowls Chief Executive said: "It's been fantastic to see first hand the level of preparation and work that's gone into the greens already, which is a credit to the Organising Committee and its Games' Partners. "Bowls is a truly international sport and World bowls is based here in Scotland. With this in mind, seeing how advanced Glasgow 2014 is in their planning and preparation, we are confident Glasgow 2014 will stage the best Lawn Bowls competition the Commonwealth has ever seen." Aug 22, 2011 Kelvingrove Lawn Bowling Greens nearing completion phase 1 Steady progress at the Kelvingrove means all five of the newly constructed bowling greens are now nearing completion. Representatives from the World Bowls Techical team from the Commonwealth Games 2014 organising committee are due to visit the site next month. First turf is laid by Fairways Sportsgrounds at Kelvingrove Lawn Bowling Greens Turf for two of the five greens has now been laid at the Kelvingrove Lawn Bowling Greens project in the west end of Glasgow. The two are those nearest the Museum building. Tthe next consignment of the specifically grown turf is arriving at the end of the month. May 11, 2011 Fairways Sportsgrounds introduces Advantage RedCourt A new tennis surface that combines the playing characteristics and appearance of clay with the benefits of an all-weather surface has been introduced in Scotland and N England by Fairways Sportsgrounds. Developed by carpet partners Edel Grass, Advantage RedCourt is already a big success in Holland. Advantage RedCourt only has to be installed on a stable, free draining base. Play takes place on an unbound surface. Players therefore develop and use slide in a controlled motion, allowing coverage of the whole court area with reduced effort and less stress on joints and ligaments. And unlike traditional clay courts, there is no costly reconstruction every spring and no need for expensive irrigation. The exhibition takes place on Thursday, March 31 from 9.00 am - 1.00 pm at Celtic Park, No7 Restaurant, 18 Kerrydale Street, Glasgow G40 3RE. Jan 5, 2011 FIH 'Global Standard' achieved for Fairways Sportsgrounds' project at Peffermill, Edinburgh Following Fairways Sportsgrounds' successful installation of an Edel Grass 'Triple T' carpet at Peffermill Playing Fields for the University of Edinburgh during summer 2010, it has now been tested by a UKAS-accredited test house. We are pleased to report it has achieved a 'Global Standard' award as recognised by the Federation of International Hockey. Work begins at Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games venue Iniitial site preparation has started at the venue for the lawn bowls events at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games. Adjacent to the iconic Kelvin Art Gallery & Museum in Glasgow's west end, the team at Fairways Sportsgrounds is beginning the contract which includes installing a new drainage system, reconstructing greens and ditches- incorporating a new automated irrigation scheme - and resurfacing the network of footpaths. The first phase of work is expected to be completed during summer 2011. Fairways Sportsgrounds wins prestigious Commonwealth Games 2014 contract Fairways Sportsgrounds has won the contract to construct the lawn bowling greens at Kelvingrove, Glasgow for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The contract has been awarded by Glasgow City Council and includes the upgrade of five greens to international standard. Edinburgh City Council's new facility at Meggetland Sports Complex handed over Fairways Sportsgrounds has handed over to Edinburgh City Council a splendid new synthetic pitch at Meggetland Sports Complex on time and to budget. Predominantly used for soccer, the new surface has an Alveo shock pad and complies with IRB regulation 22 standard so can also be used for rugby training. University of Edinburgh chooses Triple-T for Peffermill, home of National Hockey Academy The University of Edinburgh has commissioned Fairways Sportsgrounds to resurface its present water based pitch at Peffermill Playing Fields with the state-of-the-art 'Triple-T' system, starting in the summer. The site incorporates the National Hockey Academy, run by Scottish Hockey and is just 2 ½ miles from the city centre. April 12, 2010 World class facility for sportScotland National Centre, Inverclyde The sportScotland National Centre, for Scotland's elite athletes and teams, is the first site anywhere in Britain to use the "Triple-T" hockey surface. The new installation is a revolutionary water-based hockey pitch which uses the "Triple-T" synthetic turf system by Edel Grass, Fairways Sportsgrounds' carpet partners. What makes "Triple-T" so unique is that there are more than 1 million fibres in each square metre of artificial grass. Because it is such a dense and stable surface, the hockey ball runs truly, with players reporting good grip in both wet and dry conditions. This means that the company's health and safety documentation have been compared against the SAFE Contractor Charters Standards which set out the health and safety standards required to achieve accreditation. Health and safety topics considered during the assessment include policy statement, staff training, risk assessment, organisational structure, work -equipment testing and maintenance, communication with employees and many other areas.
