sportScotland National Centre, Largs
sportScotland, the organisation tasked with maximising Scotland's sporting potential, has had one of the world's leading hockey surfaces installed at the National Centre in Largs, Ayrshire. Hailed as the most innovative synthetic hockey field to date - 'The 'Triple-T' system - is the first pitch of its kind in the UK and only the third in the world. The new installation is a revolutionary water-based hockey pitch using the 'Triple-T' synthetic turf system by Edel Grass, Fairways Sportsgrounds' carpet partners. What makes the 'Triple-T' system unique is that there are more than one million fibres in each square metre of artificial grass. The hockey ball runs 'true' because the surface is so dense and stable, with players reporting good grip in both wet and dry conditions. The revolutionary carpet is laid on a special shock-absorbing base made out of closed-cell foam. The water-based surface needs to be dampened during play and this new system features the patented Edel Grass ‘Low/No H2O®’ technology so uses a very frugal 8m³. Water consumption is much reduced benefiting the environment and significantly lowering operating costs. All the highest international quality standards are met and it is certificated by hockey’s governing body, the FIH (Federation of International Hockey).
