Stewart's Melville College, Edinburgh
Fairways Sportsgrounds has handed over the second of two Federation of International Hockey-approved synthetic pitches for client, Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools in Edinburgh. This latest pitch is for Stewarts Melville College at Queensferry Road and follows on from the success of the pitch laid at the Mary Erskine School site at Ravelston Terrace in Autumn 2008. This pitch is also a sand obscured surface (sand dressed) but to a slightly higher specification than MES as it uses an Edel Grass 'Triple-T' carpet. According to the client this is 'as good as it gets without being water-based' and provides the young people being coached a very positive experience in terms of skill development and coping with bounce. It features secure perimeter fencing and extensive access pathway constructions. Floodlight provision means ESMS can extend the use of the facilities to night play and for use by their sports club members.
